Super Chia
branding and packaging design

Super Chia is a grocery product designed to be suitable for an elderly audience. I worked to create a package and brand identity, along with a final printed prototype.

InDesign

Why chia seeds?

Two key reasons: 1) the significant amount of daily nutrients they provide for a senior that might have trouble getting access to those vitamins, and 2) chia seeds are perfect to add to foods that a senior audience typically eats: soft foods like yoghurt, smoothies, or oatmeal.

The concept for the Super Chia single serving pod packaging was also inspired by the water resistant quality of lotus seed pods. One individual pod is designed to protect a single serving size of chia seeds—about one tablespoon—which contains enough omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and iron to fulfil daily recommended requirements.

Prototyping

The package design for Super Chia is specifically created to protect the seeds against moisture within their pods, provide easy eye-level access in their display case, and be ergonomic for aging fingers in order to prevent spilling when opening the tabbed lid.

3. Final Prototype

I chose a display packaging for easy-access checkstand marketing. At this scale, each display can hold six Super Chia pods.
