capSOL
sustainable placemaking design

Tasked with I worked with a partner to create capSOL; an outdoor structure designed for place-making, sustainability, and eco-education. The Cruess design building on the UC Davis campus started renovation Spring of 2019, so our task was to design an outdoor place-making structure for the new courtyard.

Our vision for capSOL included a multifunctional study space and design department information hub. We aimed to use repurposed wood and solar panels which lead the way for the sustainability of our capSOL. Students can also learn and appreciate the power of solar energy and the importance of recycling rain water used for the rain garden.

Tools:
Vectorworks
Photoshop
Illustrator

My Role:
I created the graphic identity—logo, branding, and poster mockup—for capSOL, while my partner used their 3D rendering skills to create the structure using Vectorworks. We then worked together to build a scale model for presentation.

Process

We sketched a few possible designs to determine the best dimensions and solar optimization for our capSOL. My partner then rendered our design so I could photoshop the other defining features onto the structure.
